Bingo for Boating

Submitted by Heather Reese on Monday, March 1st, 05:04pm

Go boating, win prizes.

A group of Marinas are launching a program to encourage boaters to make stops in local ports.

Fifteen participants, including Bell Harbor Marina, are passing out bingo-like stamp cards.

Each time you visit a different marina this year for a minimum of one night of guest moorage, you'll get a stamp.

Complete a row of four marinas, and you'll get a "Passport to Puget Sound" t-shirt.

The first fifteen boaters to get a black out will each get a grand prize package which could include hotel accommodations, restaurant gift certificates, event tickets or the like.

Safeco saves energy

Submitted by Heather Reese on Thursday, February 25th, 12:40pm

Safeco Field is replacing its energy-sucking Out of Town scoreboard with a brand new LED one.

KOMO photographer Doug Piglsey snapped these pictures at Safeco on Thursday, where crews installed 84 "cabinets" that contain LED light bundles.

Those bundles will illuminate the scoreboard, which still sits above the bullpens in left field.

How much energy will it save?

Instead of using an average of 1.2 million kilowatt hours each year, the new board is expected to use about 130,000 total kWh per year.

That's one-tenth of the energy of the old board!

Top Pot "Doughnut Dash" debuts at Green Lake

Submitted by KOMO Staff on Tuesday, February 16th, 11:34am

Did somebody say doughnuts?

Because runners love gluttony (remember the mashed potato-eating contest?) on Sunday April 25 Green Lake will host the Top Pot Doughnuts Inaugural 5K Doughnut Dash & Walk.

Each registered runner (It's $30.00 on or before April 24) will receive a limited-edition Top Pot Doughnut Dash T-shirt AND there will be doughnuts and coffee for runners to refuel post-race.  The kids' race is free.

The fastest runners will have the best doughnut selection, so if you want a pink sprinkled one, you better start training now.
