Celebration for Dave Niehaus is Saturday at Safeco Field | Community Spirit

Just a reminder that the public celebration of the life of Dave Niehaus is taking place on Saturday afternoon at Safeco Field, starting at 1:10 p.m.

The Home Plate Gates will open at noon, with free parking available at the Safeco Field Garage. That’ll mean extra traffic around the stadium starting late in the morning and likely going on through late afternoon.

Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are former Mariners Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez and Dan Wilson; former Mariners and Giants broadcaster Ron Fairly; Andy Niehaus and Greta Niehaus Dunn, two of Dave’s children; and long-time fan Marlaina Lieberg.

Those appearing in video messages include Ken Griffey, Jr., Dodgers Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Vin Scully, Giants Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Jon Miller, Reds Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman and former NBC broadcaster and Hall-of-Famer Joe Garagiola.

If you can't make it, the event will be streamed live on KOMONews.com and will be shown on KOMO 4.

Niehaus passed away on November 10.
