Medina family's rarely seen collection at SAM

Submitted by Morris Malakoff on Monday, February 8th, 01:22pm

An exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum in downtown Seattle features the works of modern sculptor Alexander Calder. His works were works of balance, mobiles of all shapes and sizes.

A Medina couple, Jon and Mary Shirley, have been avid collectors of his works for decades. In that time, the graceful sculptures adorned their home, seen only by themselves and invited guests.

Now, they have moved those works to the Seattle Art Museum to share with the general public. In a show that closes April 11, “Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act”, more than 40 works from the mind and hands of one of the preeminent sculptors of the mid-20th century are accessible to everyone.

Complete information on the exhibit is available on the SAM website.
