REI ranked one of 'best companies to work for' in US

""
Submitted by Shomari Stone on Thursday, January 21st, 06:34pm

A Washington-based company is getting national recognition. Fortune magazine ranks REI in the top 20 on its list of "best companies to work for."

"I think REI is a wonderful company to work for," said REI employee. Ana Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is a 6-year veteran in REI's Seattle flagship store, and she likes "everything from benefits and the perks of meeting new people, getting new interests. different perspectives."

Fortune magazine ranked REI first in Washington state for employee satisfaction and 14th in the entire country. One worker, reacting to the honor, said, "This is the best job and best employer ever."

REI has been on the top 100 list for the last 13 years.

Officials say one of the reason why the company is successful is that it actually employees people who like the outdoors. it's not a requirement to get the job, but it does help with the culture and maintenance of high morale.

"It's all about valuing the employee, you know, including myself. Knowing that from our ceo on down, that we're listened to," said assistant manager Yee Tran.

The company prides itself on top quality outdoor gear and clothing, and on providing health care for full- and part-time employees. Customers told me they  like the 100-percent satisfaction guarantee.

"I bought a pair of ski boots. (They cost) more money than I would normally spend, but if they don't work out, Ican always return them," said customer Colleen Robertson.

In case you're wondering, fortune ranked Microsoft 51st, and Nordstrom 53rd.

I've tried to get a job there for years. No luck. Sure would be nice, apparently.
