Supporters of same-sex marriage are getting ready to celebrate.

Monday morning, during a ceremony at the state capitol, Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign a bill making it legal for same-sex couples to get married.

Following its passage, community members throughout Seattle are invited to attend a celebration/rally Monday evening.

Musical performances will be provided by several hundred members of the Seattle Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus.

The event will start at 7:30p.m., inside the Plymouth Congregational Church, 6th Ave. & University St.

Organizers say this event will be an opportunity for the community to come together to show support for marriage equality.

Guests will include:

  • Seattle City Council Member Sally Clark
  • Plymouth Congregational Church Pastor, Brigitta Remole
  • Executive Director of Washington United for Marriage, Zach Silk
  • State Representatives Jamie Pedersen and Ed Murray join in from Olympia

The new law takes effect June 7th - unless opponents get enough signatures to put the issue to a vote in November.

Rally organizers say they'll also start making plans Monday evening in anticipation of a referendum.

Washington will be the 7th state to legalize same-sex marriage.
